This 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG is powered by a hand-built, supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine, and is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission produced out of the current AMG plant in Affalterbach that is renowned for its “one man, one engine” philosophy.

The vehicle we are offering is recently serviced, unmodified, and finished in black with the cabin featuring anthracite leather on the heated seats and door panels, as well as a black dashboard and burled wood accents with an original MSRP of $120,050. 

Amenities include a power-retractable hardtop, dual-zone automatic climate control, bi-xenon headlights, Parktronic, Keyless Go, heated seats, cruise control, a Bose sound system, and COMAND navigation.

Equipment includes factory 18″ Turbine-style AMG wheels wrapped in TIRE BRAND. The car features an Active Body Control suspension as well as an electronic stability program, Automatic Slip Control (ASR), and an AMG High Performance Braking System with cross-drilled rotors.

The car was originally delivered in Southern California and has been in Nevada since 2014. Maintenance records show a vehicle that has been looked after. The front struts have been replaced at 69,736 miles, and a service was performed in January 2022.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 200-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 76,000 miles.

The handcrafted supercharged 5.4-liter M113 V8 was factory rated at 493 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission.

Following in a long line of Mercedes-Benz roadsters, the "R230" model went on sale for the 2002 model year as the first SL to feature a folding metal hardtop that provides coupe-like insulation from road noise and weather. 

The SL55 was the first full AMG version of the SL to be offered to the U.S. market, and the model featured a more powerful engine, a Speedshift automatic transmission, a high-performance brake system, model-specific body styling and wheels, and a sport steering wheel.

The SL55 AMG was the three-pointed star's new flagship, and the most powerful production car ever to storm out of the factory gates when released. Producing an astonishing 700 Nm of torque at only 2,650rpm, its 476bhp power output seems almost insignificant in comparison. And the engine's sound is amazing. Even at idle, it reverberates through your ears and makes the ground tremble. Crack the throttle open and the full-blooded roar is nothing short of phenomenal.

With the standard car's 155mph limiter removed, Mercedes claims 180mph is easily achievable. However an AMG engineer has admitted to us that an otherwise unmodified SL55 has already achieved over 205mph in testing.
