Lexus flexed its muscles when it introduced the first-generation IS F for the 2008 model year with a fantastic sport sedan, boasting some great benefits – including a powerful naturally-aspirated V8, some wonderfully aggressive styling touches over a regular IS, and excellent handling. The other big benefit is reliability; compared to its German rivals, the IS-F is particularly easy to own and operate.
Under the direction of chief engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi, who previously worked on the Toyota Supra, the IS F engineering team in conjunction with Yamaha's Formula One (F1) engine program resulted in a cast-aluminum intake manifold, new cylinder heads, and titanium intake valves. Additionally the engine features a forged crankshaft, connecting rods and cam lobes.
With most of the IS F's suspension tuning took place at Fuji Speedway in Japan.
About 2,733 units were sold in America for 2008. By the final model year in 2014, only approximately 11,500 units had been manufactured, with only 5,118 units for the U.S. market.

Factory 19″ BBS 10-spoke wheels, the IS-F has a 1/2” lower ride height than standard IS models, and braking is handled by six-piston front calipers with 14.2″ drilled rotors and two-piston rear calipers with 13.6″ rotors.
Black leather “F Spec” sport seats are trimmed with blue stitching and feature heat along with 10-way adjustment for both the driver and passenger. Amenities include Aluminized Composite trim, SmartAccess with push button start/stop, and the Mark Levinson Package, which includes voice-activated navigation, a back-up camera, Bluetooth, and a 14-speaker audio system.
